    ID my vinegaroon, please?

I picked up a vinegaroon from Repticon. The vendor had three. And I assumed I'd grab the smallest one. But as I was getting home, I realized that this vinegaroon had NO brown, like the average Giganteus. I mean, maybe it is, I'm just not seeing it?

I think it would probably still be a Mastigoproctus giganteus. I can't say I've ever seen a different species for sale in the US hobby. They do vary in color from brown to black, naturally. The ones in Texas, specifically, are almost always black.

Really? Interesting. Because I always saw pictures of ones that were at least somewhat brown in some spots. But good to know!

That's interesting, Mike, because I have one from NM, also, and it definitely is more of a chocolate brown color.

I wonder what causes the color variation. Diet? Humidity? Maybe they go through color changes like tarantulas do... like when Ts are pre-molt their exoskeleton gets dark? That would be a fun thing to research.
