02-04-2012 - Rocky Mountain Reptile Expo

Well, I've gotten feed back from club members that they think it would be beneficial for us to work a booth at the RMREs again. The PPHS has also offered to combine a booth with us (although that's against show rules so we'll have to figure that one out. Shh. )

The next one is coming up in Feb and Lynn is starting to finalize the floor plan. We used to book B5, B4 or B3. What booth do you guys think we should get? Here is the layout. Keep in mind that B5 is a corner booth so it's 1) more expensive and 2) a lot of space to fill.

We need stock to fill the table with and we need display/show animals. We also need people to work the table (make sales, promote the club(s), cover for lunches/bathroom breaks, and make sure stuff doesn't get stolen!).

...oh and anything you can chip in for booth rental is greatly appreciated as I typically pay for these sorts of things out of pocket. I think we only have about $30 left in the club fund from past donations from members.

Jessica asked Lynn if it would be cool if the two groups shared a booth and she, surprisingly, said it was! So we will be sharing/working a booth with the Pikes Peak Herp Society!

Contract and payment have been sent. I tried to request a booth on the "D" row so we'll see if that happens. They don't have an area for that on the contract, anymore, so I don't know if they just stick you someplace or what.

I am going to try to find a few things I can list on ebay and I will donate the proceeds to the club. I am going to shoot for at least 200.00 between now and Feb.

Yea, Bull! Time to start a pet store!! Are you officially retired or does that not happen until next year? I forgot what you told me.

Well, as far as the booth goes, it serves two purposes (in my eyes) 1) Recruiting and 2) Giving club members who have stock to sell a way to sell it at the expo. I used to buy wholesale stock and sell retail, when I'd work booths before, but it's not a guarantee we can sell a bunch of tarantulas and then you're stuck with a bunch of tarantulas (heck, the rosie I have was something I bought to sell at a booth in 2007... eventually she just become my pet, haha). So, theoretically buying stock would be a way to raise funds for the club, but I don't think it's guaranteed to be worth it.

That said, if we buy non-live stuff to stock a table... I'm talking, like, educational books, 3d/4d models, etc..., then that's something we can always use be it at future expos, club raffles, club prizes, etc.....

So, that's my two cents but this is a club decision.

What about selling MHBC stickers? You still have some of those?

I doubt we'll have anything by then to sell, sorry.

Yup still have stickers and a few misc non-animal things I could sell. I have a few misc tarantulas I may bring to sell.... ones I won in July. I'm thinking of buying some educational books and selling those, but that won't be at profit, I don't think.... but would at least get folks to the table. And we may even have our new logo and t-shirts designed by then that we can sell, too.

The expo was today. I booked it at about 11 AM, so I don't know how it went in its entirety. Seemed like we got some good attention that first hour, though. Maybe some of the other folks who worked the booth will see this and can chime in.

I didn't show up until noon due to the weather and long drive. There were a few booths that I wanted to hit and the bug club was one in particular. On my third pass by, there was finally enough room to get to the booth. I didn't stick around long because it seemed everyone was busy and I didn't want to take up much time but i got to meet some nice folks for a sec of two. By the way, the brazilian black was about as beautiful and freindly a display as I could imagine. Nice job, and thanks for the book.
