    Hunting in the Mojave

So next week I'm taking a quick jaunt out to LV for the hubby's birthday. While out there I'm meeting up w/ member Mark (username: ratpacklasvegas) for some herping! I wish more members could come! It will be a great time, I'm sure.

Anything you guys want me to try to "visually capture" while I'm out there (ie take photos of)? I'll report back with video and photos, I'm sure.

    Re: Hunting in the Mojave

Is it a big one? I'm wondering how I'm going to get all my supplies into our single carry-on and through security. I still have those itty bitty blacks lights we used before in Moab... though, can't say I've tested them lately if they'll work. I'm guessing it's going to be a no-go to bring my large tongs w/ me, though, as I'm sure TSA would view them as a weapon. Lantern will be too heavy to bring..... maglite is too big and could be a weapon... haha..... Who needs all that stuff anyway?? Rattlers will let you know if you're wandering too close.

I'm sure Mark and his exotic pet group out there will have supplies I can bum.

What types of rattlers have you not seen in the wild, yet?

I would really love to find a sidewinder... I dunno exactly where we're going, though, and if we'll be "south" enough.... or if it's been warm enough for them to be active when we'll be out hunting.

Haha! Okay, well, that shouldn't be a problem, then. We'll be out during prime (at least SOME type of) rattler hours.

    Here's your rattler, Brian:

Only live one we found. :( We came across another that had pretty recently been ran over...... it was still shaking its rattle.

And we ended up going down towards Lake Mead which is PRIME Sidewinder country but it was too hot, during the day and Sidewinder tracks were all we could find. Still the Speckled rattler we found was awesome. He even rattled for us.
