Talking I now have a scorpion. Yay!

So I've come to the decision I'd like a scorpion.
I've found 2" Vaejovis Spinigerus for $10. Did some research, and came up with: easy to care for, hardy, small, fast, aggressive, and aside from pain/swelling no real effect from getting stung.
I've had one scorpion in the past, an Emporer. Traded it for tree frogs a month later, so I'd say I have little experience with them. I am however, very comfortable and confident enough to feel I can care for whatever I get, with research and input.
That being said, could somebody familiar with scorpions let me know if this would be a good deal, or idea? I had also seen that they could possibly co-habitate with enough space, but it's more tolerance than communal behavior. Would it be worth trying to house 2?

Either this, or I find me a Deathstalker... For bragging rights, of course.
I'm very glad I don't ever have to buy shoes for my pets.
    They got too many legs...

That's not too bad of a deal. I can't remember how much I got mine for. I kept 4 of them together in a little 5 gallon tank. One of them had babies, then died a little later. And two more died from old age. I now have one almost mature. And a handful of babies.
If you get more than 1 and house them together, just watch them for a bit to see for any signs of aggression.

    Right on!
I think I'll try housing 2 together to start with. Plenty of hides, bark, and such.
    These are cool little buggers.

great choice and good deal for a first scorpion. desert-ish scorps are the best scorps hands down for beginners.

and deathstalkers are waaaay overrated IMHO. andros are much much better

    Thanks for the input!
I'm starting to like the apparent ease of care with desert-y species.
Seems they're as hardy as they come.

I agree, the Deathstalker is a bit overrated. I do, however, find myself fascinated at how delicate they look compared to the punch they pack.

**** straight, those Andro's are cool!! That and Babycurus(spelling?)

I'm going to get 3 V. Spinigerus, put them in a 10gal. I'll keep documenting what I see.
From what I read, they will occasionally face off and wag their claws and tails at a cage-mate, is that aggression, or them being annoyed?

    That'd be cool.
I saw a Red Claw Emperor once, really liked how that looked. I think S&T's has black ones for cheap. They were trying to push one on me last time I picked up crickets.

    Does Kirstine like scorpions?

From what I noticed with my spinigerus, they only waved their tail when they were first introduced. After a few weeks they settled down and pretty much stuck to their own spot. They would occasionally meet up with each other but showed no sign of aggression. They are some of my fav scorps that I have kept ( along with the already mentioned b. Jackosoni.)

    Re: I want a scorpion.

I keep mine in a 30L there are four of them and I do not see them much. 1 male 3 females and no aggression so far. One of them look gravid. My setup is Coconut fiber with playground sand underneath a huge shallow water dish and several hiding spots. I have heat from above and below on the left side and spray twice a day. These are my emps and the first scorpions I have ever kept, they are awesome.

This is their favorite hiding spot I have not seen them come out in days!

    They love to drink.

That's really cool! I'm digging the artistic setup.
Funny, I would not have thought them to burrow.

    Re: I want a scorpion.

So I pick this fella up tonight. I finally have a scorpion. Yay!

Problem is, it's mean as piss. Instant clawing and what-not when I open it's container. Every time. Wags its tail around. Does slo-mo laps around it trying to pinch something, anything. Actually pretty funny how enraged it seems.
Just for fun, and because I'm stupid, I picked it up and got pinched pretty good. Not pleasant. At all. Even at 3.5". It sucks. So, maybe I'm a wimp, but I sure wasn't expecting it to hurt. It got on my hand fine, spun around and got two fingers. Getting it off and back in ended with more pinching on more fingers.

I'm hoping it'll settle down once I rehouse and give it a week ore two. I'll probably try picking it up again and get stung, who knows.

Meanwhile, anybody have a suggestion to de-angry my new friend? Or will give me money/spiders for it?
